Custom carpet flooring improves user experience in a retirement village
Reflections on the Bay by Ozcare is a retirement village in Hervey Bay, Queensland. The architecture is contemporary, combining traditional pitches and skillion roofs with a consistent material palette. The result is a familiar coastal themed vernacular. Complementing the overall design is Signature’s woven carpet flooring (a combination of both custom and ready-to-wear Axminster).
Tarah Jameson, Director, Enrich Architecture says, “When designing this project our main focus was the end user’s experience. The emphasis was on encouraging companionship and group activities. We also wanted the residents to feel a sense of belonging and community spirit.”
“The initial brief from the design team was to use an existing RTW design, complementing the coastal theme of the property, says Vesna Mallia, Studio Team leader. The colour of the stock design did not suit the scheme, so the designer requested our expertise to adjust the palette to align with their project specifications. We then worked closely to make those modifications to complement the spaces.
Vesna adds, “There was also an opportunity to create a soft welcoming Axminster insert. The custom rug was to have an organic design, using the palette of the overall carpet, but to be a feature and set the mood of the village community.” With a palette of calming blues and neutrals to ground the design, the Studio created a feature Axminster rug that coordinated beautifully with the rest of the finishes and main carpet.
Our coordinating feature rug occupies the main foyer, while the library, offices, lounge and dining rooms feature our stunning semi-custom ready-to-wear carpets. Speaking of her partnership with the Studio, Tarah says, “The residents love the finished product. As always, Signature Floors has delivered a high-quality product and were a pleasure to work with.”
